Tuesdays are a fun day for Claire and I. We go to a new mother support group from 11 to 1 at the local hospital and then head to lunch with a few other moms and babies. You should see the look of people in restaurants when they see eight women with strollers coming in for lunch. Yes - we are "those people"! Eight babies ranging from 3 weeks to 9 weeks. This is one time when I feel like the oldie - isn't that scary? But it is really nice to meet and get out with other women who are going through the same things.

Another reason I enjoy going to this group is because I get to weigh Claire. Not only do I weigh her, but then I feed her and weigh her again to make sure she is transferring OK. Her transfer is OK, but I have recently felt like she hasn't been putting on weight the way she should. Three weeks ago Claire weighed 8lb 15oz (on this particular scale). The week after that she was down an ounce and then back to 8lb 15 oz the following week. This week we finally broke 9 lbs, weighing in at 9lb 1 oz before eating. It still made me nervous since I thought newborns were supposed to gain an ounce a day, so again I was "that person" who called the pediatrician just to make sure everything was OK. She said as long as Claire is content and alert when she is awake it is fine. Since we have an appointment in two weeks, the doctor said there is no reason to come in unless I really thought something was wrong. So, for my sanity, I will weigh her again next Tuesday and visit the pediatrician the week after.

We have a busy couple of weeks ahead of us. Thursday we have Mommy and Me movie and then the cable company is coming to hook up our new HD Tivo :-) !! Thursday night Dave, Becky, and our niece Gretchen are coming to visit until Sunday. I don't think Andrea knows what she is in for, but she has offered to babysit for the two kids one night so we can go eat (thanks!) Tuesday night we fly to South Carolina to spend a week down there. We head home the following Tuesday afternoon and I start work a week later - let's not go there....

Our trip to Vermont was a success! I was a little worried about how Claire would do in the car for almost 6 hours, but she was really good! There were 3 adults in the car, so someone was always sitting in the back with Claire which helped. I would say she slept about 90% of the time in the car - both there and back. We didn't have excellent weather while we were there, but we had fun nonetheless. Claire made it to the beach twice. She pretty much slept or ate while we were there. She looked so cute in her little bathing suit. We can't wait to head back to Vermont next year when she can enjoy the water.

She is still a little peanut, but at least I am able to dress her in SOME 0-3 month clothes. Every Tuesday we go to a new mothers group at the local hospital so I get to weigh her every week. In the last two weeks she has only put on 1 oz, but she is content and eating fine so I'm not worried. We measure her milk transfer at the meeting by weighing her, then I feed her during the meeting, and I weigh her again when she finishes eating. After eating yesterday, she was 9 lb 2.4 oz!

I still can't believe she will be 8 weeks old on Friday. In some aspects, it feels like time has flown by, but other times it feels like Claire has been around forever. I love hanging out with her during the day - we try to get out for any reason - grocery shopping, bank run, new mommy group, or just to go for a walk. She loves being in the Baby Bjorn so I use that to walk around town during the day. Tomorrow we are making our first trip to the movies for Mommy and me movie - we will see how that works out!

I have been so slack about updating this page lately - sorry about that! We are all doing well. We finally spent a weekend at home and relaxed for most of it. It was hot so we didn't get out much, but we did manage to go out to dinner Saturday night. Claire was very well behaved until we got caught in the rain on the way home - oops!

Claire has started with the smiles and laughing. I love to watch her expressions and they are the best first thing in the morning so Daddy gets to enjoy them too!
