Now I really have an excuse to not update this page - starting in August you need to pay to keep this page. So that means I will probably stop updating and possibly start a blog or just jump over to the Robillard blog. We will figure it out and I will let you know.
I know I have been slacking with the pictures and it was suggested I put up a link to my Facebook pictures, which I update more frequently. So, that I will do. Check out the new link on the homepage for pictures from May, June, and July. Hope you enjoy them.
We just got back from a wonderful trip to South Carolina. While we didn''t have the best weather, we had a great time visiting family and friends. Claire absolutely loved plaving with Gretchen and being around her new cousin Savannah. She wanted to hold the baby, kiss the baby, feed the baby, give the baby her pacifier, and pointed out every time the baby would cry.
Claire is talking circles around us now and loves to repeat things we say. It blows my mind how much she remembers and repeats. On Friday we were at the airport and we rode the people movers a few times (OK, it was ALOT of times) to keep Claire occupied before we left. Everytime we got on and off I would tell her to take a big step as she was getting on and off. When we got back yesterday, we were walking toward the people mover and Claire looks at me and says Mommy - big step? How does she remember that after 5 days of fun and chaos.
Claires 2nd birthday is quickly approaching - we can''t believe it. Come celebrate with us on Sunday, June 20th, let''s say 1:30.
Just curious - a lot of people have been telling me lately that Claire is starting to look just like me. Would you agree?
Finally got a video for you to enjoy. Lots has been going on here. Before we left for Puerto Rico we got a letter from daycare that Claire was ready to move up to the next room at daycare and would begin transitioning this past Monday with the official full time move taking place next Monday. Yesterday when I went to pick up Claire she was nowhere to be found and they told me they sent her for a trial run and she was having so much fun they didn''t want to take her back. And I got the same report today when I picked her up. This is much different from her last transition but we are very happy! My guess is she likes the older kids because she now has friends she can talk to.
Speaking of talking - we will be invited back to Puerto Rico next year. Claire was so funny in Puerto Rico rambling off everyones name (except Nana and Grandma). She would sit at dinner and go around the table yelling everyones name and when she got to my mom she would either skip over her or say Pipere and laugh. Friday night mom was giving her a bath and all of a sudden I hear screaming from the bathroom. I went in to find Claire rattling off Nana over and over and over again. Mom loved it and Claire thought it was hysterical. My opinion is she could say it all along and was just playing games. Needless to say, Nana is ecstatic and we will be invited back next year, right?
Over the past month Claire has been letting us know when she pees or poops. While we were sure she was not ready for potty training, we figured we have nothing to lost trying. Last Monday night before we gave Claire a bath we put on the potty and she peed! Surely we thought it was a fluke, but tried again on Tuesday - nothing. Wednesday we tried again and she peed again. Same thing Thursday and then again Sunday. It is a start, but I don''t think we are anywhere near full blown potty training. But we did buy Claire an Elmo seat cover and step stool for the bathroom. So throw out those suggestions for potty training - we definitely need some good advice.
We took Claire for her 2nd H1N1 shot this week and she weighed in at a whopping 26lb 8oz - how did that happen??
We''re back from Puerto Rico and we all had a wonderful time despite the rain. We tired Claire out pretty good and she took almost a 4 hour nap as soon as we got home. I will update more later and hope to post pictures soon. And to top off the trip - Claire peed on the potty last night! I am sure it was just a fluke but we were excited anyways.
Claire sends her love to baby Madelynn who was born Sunday morning. A big congratulations to Sarah, Tommy, and big sister Emma!
It''s been too long since I updated - time to get an update in before Christmas is here! Our little Claire is getting so big. She loves to talk all the time and jabbers away. Her vocabulary is getting bigger every day but my favorite word of hers is yellow. It takes so much effort for her to get that word out, but it sounds sooooo cute when she says it. She finally says a version of I love you, which makes me smile.
Claire was sick for the first time a few weeks ago. Dan has gone to a concert and I was asleep on the couch when he came home (shocking, I know!). I heard Claire moving around and I thought he woke her up, but he quickly called me into her room where he was standing covered in puke. I felt bad, but had to laugh at the same time. Can you believe that was the first time she was ever sick? She got sick once more that night but after getting back to sleep around 2 she slept through the night and felt and acted fine the next morning. Must have been something she ate. For the last week Claire has been teething horribly!! She is uncomfortable, has bad diarrhea which lead to a horrible diaper rash. It was so bad I debated taking her to the doctor but opted against it since we are going Wednesday anyways.
Claire has done much better with the Christmas tree than I anticipated. At first she was scared of it, but got a little more comfortable once the lights went on. Now it is fully decorated (twice since it fell over last week) and she is OK with it. The only she is interested in are two separate Santa ornaments. It is strange, but she only touch those two ornaments and leaves everything else alone. We haven''t taken her to see Santa yet, but we might head out this weekend. That''s about it for now, I will update her stats after our appointment Wednesday night.
Still no pictures, but we did upload a new video to the Robillard blog. I told you Claire loves to dance and she cracks me up every time she does it. The video is just one of her many dancing episodes we get each day. And, yes, I know she needs a hair cut....badly!
Out of nowhere, her talking has exploded! Yesterday I was holding her and she put her finger in my eye and said eye. Then pointed to my nose (alright, she really put her finger all the way up my nose) and said nose. She says thank you, night night, hi, bye, boo boo, more. She is starting to learn peoples names and if you ask her what her teachers name is, she will tell you. When she wakes up in the morning she calls everyone she knows...Mama, Dada, Aun-a (auntie), Anna (her teacher), Nuno (a worker from daycare named Mundo). At least we spend our days laughing now.
Last night I got motivated to update Claires page, especially since she is into so many funny things right now. She loooooves to dance any time music comes on. But she must get her dance moves from her father - it is too funny to see. Friday afternoon I moved videos from the camera to our external hard drive so I sat down on the couch excited and ready to upload for everyone to see. The conversation went something like this...
M: Dan, this drive is really slow. How come I can''t see the first screen of the video - shouldn''t I be able to see it."
D: Just restart the computer, it might be running slow
M: But the internet is working fine, it''s just the hard drive that is slow
D: (Walks over and puts his ear to the drive) This doesn''t sound good, I think something is wrong with the drive.
And thus our wonderful night began...realizing that we have currently lost all of our pictures and videos from the last two+ years. Oops! I guess it''s not the end of the world since we have some pictures here and there on Ofoto, facebook, this site, E-mail, etc. But it was nice to have them all in one place and organized. Dan did find a lot of the Claire pictures backed up on his computer at work, but we still lost a lot including all the videos. I am holding on to a small piece of hope that we will somehow be able to recover everything, but only time will tell.
So bear with us as we are working to get our pictures and videos back together :-(
Make sure you check out Claires new videos - I finally added three new ones for your viewing pleasure. You will see Claire show you her body parts. She knows her head, eyes, ears, nose, teeth, belly, and feet. Her favorite is her belly and she walks around showing everyone her belly while trying to check out your belly button. Claire says no-no, shakes her head, and moves her finger like a little sass. She finally caught onto nodding yes, and you will see in the video that it is a full body movement for her to say yes - she hasn''t quite figured out the nodding yet. Claire has also learned to find and say Elmo - it sounds a lot like apple, but she says it every time she sees Elmo. She also responds to "A" is for, by saying Apple. I guess they work on that at circle time so she now knows what to say.
Last week Dan and I had our first back to school night. They had all the parents come into daycare at night and meet with the teachers to talk about what the kids are doing all day - circle time, play time, reading, etc.... We had a good time and they sent us home with lots of Claires art projects as well as a DVD they made with pictures of her from the time she started at that daycare. She will have been there a year next week.
This past weekend, we headed down to Baltimore for the Clemson vs. Maryland football game. We decided a while ago that we were going to take Claire with us and I am so glad that we did. She really had a blast. We were worried because she normally naps from 12:30 -2:30 and the game was at noon, but there was only one way to find out how she would do - and I was willing to take that chance. Let me just say Claire was an angel. We didn''t get to Baltimore until late Friday night and it was about 10:30 by the time we got settled into the hotel. I woke Claire up around 7:45AM and we were up and out to tailgate. She ran around the parking lot and played with lots of people. Around 10:45 I decided to try and get to sleep so we took a walk around the parking lot with the stroller and she fell asleep around 11. She started to stir at 11:40 so we packed her up and walked to the stadium. She sat the entire time and stared at the game like she knew what was going on. I was sure we would have to take her out a few times, but I let her run around the breezeway at halftime and she was good for the rest of the game. We didn''t even have to pull out the pacifier to keep her calm. I thought she would sleep after the game but she continued to run around the parking lot and got lots and lots and lots of attention from the people we were tailgating with. She passed out in the car on the way home and slept until 9:40 Sunday morning.
Claires vocabulary now includes Mama, Dada (her favorite word that she repeats from the second she wakes up until the second she goes to sleep - no, I''m not the least bit offended), dog, uh-oh, up, bye, Elmo, apple, all done, no-no, and yay.
Claires appt today was pretty uneventful. Her weight and height have not changed at all - still weighing in at 23 lb and 30.5 inches tall. She got measured today on the big people scale, which was a funny sight. And we don''t have to go back until 18 months (unless the H1N1 shot is in and we take her back sooner).
One of Claires favorite new things is to dip any food in any other food. it started with ketchup and has progressed to anything that can be dipped into. Right now she is dipping her meat loaf into hummus. Only she doesn''t get that once she dips she should eat that bite, she just sucks the hummus off and dips again - so beware of her double dipping! She is slowly figuring out how to eat with utensils. She will use a spoon to eat applesauce or yogurt, but she wears about as much as she eats. And she isn''t quite strong enough to push the fork into her food. But she understand the concept and will move the fork to her mouth once we put food on it.
We have had a great couple of weeks. Last weekend we spend in Massachusetts for Labor Day/family visiting/birthday celebrations. I think Claire enjoyed getting spend time with everyone and running around Grandma & Piperes lawn. She wears herself out walking around, which makes for long sleep nights. We are extremely lucky with Claires sleeping habits as Dan has to wake her up around 7:00 to get ready for daycare. But she must forget about this when the weekend comes because most morning she will sleep until at least 8:30, but usually more toward 9 or 9:30. Since moving to the toddler room at daycare she is down to one nap a day (12:30-2:30) so we moved her bedtime up to 8:00. However, she will pretty much stay up until any hour if you keep her occupied. Last weekend most nights she was up until 10 or 11 and wasn''t fussy about it. I am realizing now how lucky we really are.
Claire has been teething like crazy lately and has been a little fussier than normal. I haven''t seen any new teeth come through, but I know they are there somewhere. She can''t take her hand out of her mouth and is drooling like crazy with a runny nose and low fever. From what we see, she has 6 teeth on top and just 2 on the bottom.
The daycare adjustment is now complete. Every day got a little better and the Tuesday after Labor Day they switched the personnel around and Claire now has her FAVORITE lady in her room with her. Since that day she has yet to cry when getting dropped off. Today I saw Claire stand herself up without the grabbing onto anything. She cracks me up whenever she bends over to pick something up, she had total concentration on what she is doing.
Today we went apple picking with some friends and had a great time. We didn''t take the stroller and Claire was a trooper walking around the orchard. She passed out in the car and then slept for another 3 hours once we got home. That meant Mommy & Daddy both got naps this afternoon! :-)
That''s about it for now, I have rambled enough. We head back to the doctor on Wednesday for her 15 month checkup.
Claire is walking around like crazy now. She is little Miss Independent and does not like any help walking, especially on her way home from daycare. I added a new video of her walking through the house, you can see how stable she is (except over the lip into our bedroom).
These last few weeks have been trying for her as she has been transitioning from the infant room to the toddler room at daycare. Some of the changes she is going through are 2 naps to one nap (on a 12:30-2:30 schedule). Sleeping on a mat instead of a crib and eating at little picnic tables instead of high chairs. They had been working with her ahead of time on sleeping on the mat and getting only one nap, but she has been having a hard time transitioning to the new care takers. It has been about 3 weeks now and she is finally starting to spend the entire day in the toddler room without being sent back to the infant room. They tell us she is doing much better now, but still has a few breakdowns throughout the day. Dan says she freaks out when he drops her off in the kitchen with her new teacher (the breakfast tables are in the kitchen), but she stops once one of the infant teachers comes over. Everyday is a little better and I think she will forget about the infant room soon. At least she is interacting with bigger kids now and gets to head outside to play at the park a few times a week. In the infant room, they went out for walks, but weren''t allowed to get out of the stroller and play. Claire also sustained her first battle scar at daycare last week when she tripped walking to circle time. She didn''t seemed bothered by it, but had a nice bruise above her eye. And I never like to see the daycares name on my caller ID at work.
Claire has been a little fussier than normal now that she is teething pretty badly - she has 6 teeth. She surprises us everyday with something new - knowing a new body part, sign, or word. She loves to clap her hands and show us where her belly and nose are.
Eating habits have not improved at all - I think she is going to turn into a chicken nugget.
Claire is changing so quickly. I know I haven''t updated in a while, so here is a quick rundown of what she is up to. At her last pediatrician appointment (July 22nd), Claire weighed in at a whopping 23lb 10oz, 30.5 inches tall, with a 46cm head circumference. That puts her about 50-75th percentile in just about everything. Two weeks ago, she figured out she could crawl. She never goes more than a few feet before sitting up and continuing to scoot, but at least she knows HOW to crawl now. The scooting still continues and she is faster than ever at it. Claire has her top and bottom right teeth which came in first. Last week, Dan put his finger in her mouth and found 2 more teeth on the tap way in the back. I didn''t even know they were coming in and she wasn''t too fussy, which is good. On Friday, the top tooth to the right of her front tooth came through and any day now I am expecting the front left along with every other tooth in her mouth. The poor girls gums are ready to explode. But I must say she has not been fussy :-)
When I picked up Claire at daycare Thursday they told me she was no longer scared to walk. I shrugged it off and we packed up and headed to Vermont as soon as we got home. Once we got to Vermont I let Claire get up and walk around a little and they weren''t kidding - she was off! But only walking from person to person or object to object. By the time we left Vermont Monday, Claire had learned how to pull herself up and also gained the confidence to take off walking on her own. Now we are really in trouble.
Claire enjoyed her visit to the camp, and got to play in the sand, in the lake, and she also went for a boat ride. She enjoyed it so much she slept the entire ride. Maybe the fact that she couldn''t move in her lift vest helped? Also while we were in Vermont, we had our bathroom renovated so Claire now has a tub at home. That is a huge plus for us.
Claire is saying Mama, Dada, up, baby, no-no, bye-bye, and I am sure there are a few I am missing. As far as the signing goes, she is absorbing that like a sponge - milk, water, food, hat, please, baby, more, all done, mom, time...She loves those videos and just stares at the screen and tries to follow along with the signs. We are back to the pediatrician on the 19th for more shots - fun times.
No doctors appointment for us today. Claires pediatrician called out sick and they offered for us to see another doctor, but warned that the wait might be a little longer than usual. No thanks, we''ll head back Wednesday.
Claire cut her second tooth on Saturday, the top right. So now she has the bottom right and top right. It is funny to see since most babies get either their top or bottom teeth first. Not Claire, she''ll take one of each.
She is much closer to walking now, however, she has realized that it can be fun to fall on her butt. So, sometimes she would rather fall than walk. But she gets around with her push toys and cruises once she hits a road block with her toy. She hasn''t quite figured out how to pull up on things, but she was standing in her crib last night. I guess it is only a matter of time now. Claire no longer wants to be carried around, especially home from daycare. The second we hit the sidewalk, she wants to be walking on her own. She walks the one block home holding just one finger. It takes us a while, not so much because she walks slowly, but she feels the need to stop and wave to everyone along the way. She is a waving machine (still!) and is not interested in crawling at all. She scoots around on her butt still and gets everywhere she wants to go, and she is pretty quick.
She is now saying Mama, Dada, and Bye-Bye (see the video). She knows when we are headed out the door and immediately says bye-bye. I love it!
Her eating habits have gone downhill. Fruit is OK as long as it is baby food puree or bananas. Any other fruit is out. Blueberries are hit and miss, but nothing else touches her lips. She closes her mouth and shakes her head no. Pretty much the same thing with vegetables. We are going to have to work on that. She still loves her veggie burgers, veggie dogs, chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, goldfish, cheerios, and graham crackers. Because her bathtime splashing has gotten out of control, we are working on getting a contractor to renovate our tiny bathroom and have a tub installed. Tonight we took a trip to Home Depot to try to price a few things out. I always bring Goldfish to keep Claire occupied. She was eating them up when I was holding her and then she started making a funny noise. I think Dan know what was happening because he just looked at me. Two second later, we realized that she had been eating the Goldfish without chewing them. And I know this because I was wearing half of them on my shirt and she was wearing the other half on her pretty dress. Of course Claire thought it was HYSTERICAL and couldn''t stop laughing as we were cleaning things up. Glad she has a sense of humor...
That''s about it for now. Be sure to check out the new videos. I uploaded a lot of them, but I often wonder if anyone is still reading this page? Hello - anyone out there??
Who is the person most slack about keeping this page up? Me!!! Sorry it has been so long.
Holy cow - where has the year (plus 2 weeks gone)? Claire turned one on June 20th and she has had her round of parties that finally finished up this afternoon. It started with a small party at daycare on June 19th. Unfortunately, we picked Claire up during nap time in the infant room so not many of the kids were awake. But they wanted Claire to dig into her cupcake anyways. She did so and was mildly interested in it. That afternoon we headed to Massachusetts, with Claire in the big girl forward facing car seat, and started a great weekend. Friday afternoon Kristin, Grandma, and Mommy took Claire for her first haircut. Gary did a great job and Claire looked like such a big kid once he was gone. That Saturday was Claires Birthday party in Massachusetts. We were worried about the weather, but the rain held out and we had a great time. Claire got lots of awesome presents and kept the crowd entertained with her waving. Everywhere we go people comment on Claires waving. The consensus is Claire will either be a politician or beauty queens. Claires cake eating experience led to Claire just waving to everyone. We even pushed her hands in the cake, but all she wanted to do was wave to everyone.
The following week we flew down to South Carolina for some more fun. We realized this was already Claires 5th flight. It is getting harded to fly with her now that she is mobile. Around 11.5 months she started walking with a pushtoy, but doesn''t walk on her own yet. Anyways, back to SC....We had a great time down there, and Claire got to show off her new separation anxiety. If Dan or I are out of sight, Claire flips out. It is really frustrating and I hope this phase passes quickly. Claire also had a birthday party with some family and friends in SC. She enjoyed the ice cream cake much better and tried to stick her entire face in it. Thanks to everyone who came over to make the day wonderful. Claire loved swimming in Grandma & Grumpys pool for the weekend. Also while in SC Claire had her 1 year pictures made. I think they came out pretty good, you can see some of my favorites on the front page. We also had family pictures made with the whole Snider family. I think they came out really good.
Today, Claire had her last birthday party with her Hoboken friends. Mommy met all these ladies at the new mother support group in town. They have been an excellent source for information, and we enjoy ourselves and getting out for a few drinks every so often. I don''t know what I would do without their sanity checks every once in a while!
So, what else has Claire been up to? She is getting better at eating and loves anything she can grab and put in her mouth herself. Still no crawling, but she scoots like a champion. Along with her waving, everyone comments on her scooting. She has figured out how to get herself from laying to sitting, but doesn''t pull up on things yet. Once she figures out how to pull up, I think she will be off walking. Yesterday, she took 25 steps down the hall at the Hyatt! She is getting better everyday. She cut her first tooth (bottom left) on her birthday and I think she has a few more coming in. At her 1 year check up, she weighed in at 21 lb 10 oz and 29.5 inches long. She signs "more" and "milk" and I am starting to believe she knows what she is saying. She says Mama (finally!) and Dada.
Sorry it took so long to post an update. I will try to do better.
Seriously? Has 11 months already gone by since Claire was born. I was on my way to the office this morning and found myself thinking about this time last year when I left for Memorial Day weekend and then started my official maternity leave. I wish I could have Memorial Day to Labor Day off this year again. But my 3 weeks vacation will have to do :-(
Miss Claire has changed so much lately. Every day I feel like the is trying something new. She is not a wonderful eater like she previously was. She wanted to be independent and feed herself, but there aren''t many veggies or fruits she likes to feed herself. She much prefers wagon wheels, puffs, yogurt bites, the Gerber freeze dried fruits, and any other Gerber creation. It is harder to feed her off the spoon now because she just wants to swing and hit the spoon sending the food flying. Dinner time is quite an adventure. She loves cheese of any kind - string cheese, grilled cheese, macaroni and cheese, Goldfish (I think you get the point). She also enjoy veggies burgers and we found out last weekend that she likes hot dogs as well. Next shopping trip we will find some turkey or tofu dogs instead of regular hot dogs. I think those would be a little healthier for her. She also enjoy eating lasagna, which I think is the cleanest food to give a baby.
Claire is completely mobile, but not in the way that we ever expected. As you can see in the video, she is a scooter. She gets where she wants to go on her butt. She still hasn''t figured out crawling, which I think could be because we have all hardwood floors. She will walk while holding onto your fingers and thinks it is great. This also meant we had to start investing in shoes.
We finally ordered the next car seat and will have to make the switch soon. I am trying to hold out until she is 1 year old so we can install in forward facing. However, I am not sure we will make it. Claire has spent a lot of time in the car lately, considering we don''t drive around Hoboken at all. Dan''s grandfather passed away last week so we drove out to Ohio. Claire was well behaved and a much needed distraction through all the services. Luckily, Claire was able to meet her great grandfather over Easter. And I know they had a great time together. Last weekend we were in Massachusetts and this weekend Mom & Dad head down to Maryland for a wedding while Claire spends the weekend at The Camp For Inner City Children (AKA - Camp Wishing Well). Over Memorial Day weekend, we were in Massachusetts and Claire got to swim for the first time in a while. Thanks Fletchers for letting us use your pool. Claire was pretty much fearless in the water so we are looking forward to the summer. We did find one negative side effect of living in the city, Claire did not know what to do with the grass. She hated the feel of it on her feet and refused to sit or walk in it. Maybe next week....
Enough rambling for the night - it has been a while since I updated so now you have it all at once. Be on the look out for birthday celebrations coming to a theater near you - Massachusetts, South Carolina, and then New Jersey. We can''t believe it has almost been a year...
I hope you enjoy the new videos. It seems they come in waves and I uploaded 3 more so make sure you check them all out. Claire is hysterical lately - besides clapping, her newest trick is sticking her tongue out (thank you Andrea!). She still isn''t interested in crawling and the only time she gets her butt off the ground is when is lying on the bed. You can see it in one of the videos. When sitting up, she just scoots herself around in circles to get what she wants. On her stomach, she will play and reach, but doesn''t ever roll over while playing, no interest at all. She stands up holding onto two fingers and will take a couple steps. Maybe she will walk before crawling. She still takes a pacifier but only to fall asleep. She doesn''t look for it in the middle of the night, and we never give it to her during the day. And did I mention she still has no teeth?
We had a great weekend. Friday night David and Donna were here so we went to dinner with Grandma and Andrea. Claire was a trooper considering we didn''t even sit down at the restaurant until 9:15. She just played and loved eating the pasta. Friday night she had a sleepover with Grandma and Andrea. Saturday we were in the city for Williams Christening and got to spend some more time with family. Sunday we took Claire to the Bronx Zoo. She seemed interested, but definitely enjoyed looking at the fish. She did great for being outside on a 90 degree day. This weekend Claire and Mommy are having a girls weekend while Dan take a trip to Hilton Head.
It is hard to believe Claire is already 10 months old. This weekend, for the first time, we put her in pajamas without feet. She looked so big, but adorable (not that I am partial or anything!). Next week we head to the doctor for her check up - we are interested to see how much she has grown! Be sure to check back for the stats.
I added a few videos for everyone. Don''t worry - I left out the one where Dan and I were watching Claire clap and she fell over on the changing table and hit her head on the wall...oops! She was fine, but the video ended with Dan saying oh sh!t.
This past weekend we took a trip to Maryland and Claire had a good time. We went swimming Saturday and she loved it - kicking like a crazy woman. I can''t wait for summer to be here.
We had a wonderful Easter, and I hope you did as well. Last Thursday we headed up to Ohio to spend Easter with Dans family and introduce Claire to her great grandparents. Everyone had a wonderful time. Claire was a trooper and well behaved for the trip. I thinks he especially enjoyed playing with her cousin Gretchen.
She had her first experience with mashed potatoes and possible wore more than she ate. Claire also ate a ton of raisin bread and loved it. Surprisingly enough, she takes little bites and doesn''t try to shove the whole piece in her mouth. Claire also has a new trick - she claps! All of a sudden on Easter I look over and there is Claire, clapping away - and I am not sure she has stopped since. We got her all dressed up for Easter (I will try to post pictures tonight!), and she was well beheved during church, unless you consider consistently throwing her Easter egg misbehaving.
Claire also experienced her first baseball game. Saturday we got tickets to the Indians, and although the actual game wasn''t the greatest, she still had a good time and she slept for almost 4 innings!
That''s about it for now. When I picked up Claire for daycare yesterday they told me she took a step while holding onto the ladies hands. Maybe Claire will skip crawling, she doesn''t seem too interested.
Yes, I know we have been slack about updating. Make sure to check out the THREE videos I uploaded!!
Claire is getting so big and we are wondering where the time has gone? At her 8 month check up she weighed in at a whopping 18 lbs! She is finally back in the middle of the pack for both height (27") and weight (18lbs). Head circumference was 44.5 cm. It was a sad day at daycare last week when they informed me Claire had been moved to the big kid side of infant room. That is hard for me to believe. Now when I go pick her up she is sitting up playing with the other kids. She gets soooooooo excited when Dan or I show up in the afternoon. Her little legs go a mile and minute and she smiles ear to ear. That makes my day!
Claire loves to eat and isn''t so picky anymore. She loves her yogurt and cheese and pretty much any vegetable that we make for her - sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, parnsips, turnips, leeks, corn. We also make some fruits - mango, apple, pear and the other Gerber fruits we buy. She is NOT a fan of Tofu, but at least we tried. We are also starting to give her a little of whatever we are eating for dinner, she loves to feed herself. Starting this week we dropped down to only 3 bottles a day which she is fine with. She does not like the sippy cup - we have tried a couple different ones with water, juice, formula, and nothing seems to work. We will keep trying!
Developmentally, Claire just recently became mobile on the floor. No crawling yet, but she moves around in circles on her stomach and can push herself backwards on the hardwood floor. I don''t think it will be long before she is off crawling. She isn''t too interested in walking and has yet to pull herself up on anything, but she does stand if you support her a little. Still no teeth, but I don''t think it will be long (haven''t I been saying that for months?). I didn''t get teeth until I was 1 so maybe she is taking after me. Grandma S and Grumpy - when did Dan get teeth?
We are looking forward to ALOT of travel in the coming weeks. We are headed to Cleveland for Easter and we are excited for Claire to meet her Great Grandparents and Dans other relatives. Not so excited that her first baseball game with be an Indians game (J/K). Enough rambling - maybe this makes up for the lack of posts over the last 6 weeks.
Everything checked out well at the doctors. Miss Claire has had a major growth spurt over the past 2 months gaining 3 lbs between each appointment. She is up to 16lb 10oz, and the doctor said the weight gain is well deserved! Everything else checked out fine, Claire is doing wonderful!
Of course you know she is sitting up so that means she needs more toys to entertain her. Yesterday we unpacked a few toys and she seems to enjoy them.
We have also been cleared to start some new foods - yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. And, yes Pipere, you can now give her Cheerios.
We are finally back from a wonderful vacation! After spending 10 days and 9 nights in Puerto Rico we had to face reality and bear the cold. It was a great trip and Claire really enjoyed it. The flight down was great - it was at 7AM so I just kept Claire in her PJs and she never really woke up until I took her out of the carseat at the airport. She slept about 75% of the flight down which meant Mommy got a nap too! We met Grandma and Pipere at the airport and then picked up Kristin a little while later. Kristin looked back at Claire in the car seat and barely recognized her - they say she got big. I guess we don''t see it because we see her everyday. She turned 7 months today - how time flies!
Claire LOVED the water. The first time I put her in the pool she freaked but that was my fault because I just put her in the float without easing her into the water. Everyone other time she loved it and never wanted to get out. We would spend a long time in the pool then dip her feet in the ocean then back in the pool again. She was soooo happy while we were there. Grandma and Pipere kept her in their room at night which made them very happy. Claire is Little Miss Chatterbox in the morning. She would sleep until 7:30 or 8:30 and the just laugh and play for an hour before eating. Claire tried mangoes and pineapple in Puerto Rico and enjoyed them both. The only food she doesn''t like is still green bean and peas, but she will eat them if mixed with anything else.
After a great vacation, the trip home was eventful. The flight was overbooked and I, of course, learned from my father to volunteer. I was a little hesitant to say yes because we would have to take a connecting flight through Miami instead of a direct flight, BUT who could turn down a $300 voucher for me, Dan , and Andrea. We took the voucher and after two flights and two security checks Claire did excellent on the planes. Between the two flights she slept 90% of the time, which made me a very happy camper! The 4 hours of time we sacrificed ended up being well worth the vouchers we received.
Claire has a few new tricks. She moves herself while she is asleep and now rolls on her side with her head in the corner of the crib. We also have an unsupported sitter! She has been close for a while but just this week really caught on. She will still fall backwards after a while, but nothing a little pillow can''t fix. I took a video this afternoon so you can see. It shouldn''t be long before she rolls over from back to stomach - she is about 80% there. We will you updated!
Mommy got an A+ today at daycare. Why?? Because I got motivated this weekend and made Claires baby food. It was much easier than I expected and very cost efficient. Plus, it allows me to hide the peas in other veggies such as carrots and sweet potatoes! Those were the only three veggies I made, but next time I will try some different ones. Any suggestions out there?
Things are changing! Miss Claire had a much needed growth spurt since her last doctors visit. She weighed in at a whopping 13lb 10 oz. The doctor was very happy with her weight gain and told us to keep feeding her. Claire is still in the middle of the pack with her length (26 inches) and head (42cm). Another big change - we have moved to 3-6 month clothes and Size 2 diapers!
Claire is eating like a champ these days. The breastfeeding is winding down since Claire is much more interested in her fruits and vegetables. She started vegetables on Thanksgiving and has since enjoyed almost every kind of vegetable there is. She likes the sweet ones better, but if she is really hungry she will eat peas or green beans. On Christmas she started eating fruits and she LOVES them. Well, at least the bananas, pears, and applesauce that she has tried. I tried mashing an avocado today to feed her and she DID NOT enjoy it. She was gagging trying to eat it!
No new tricks for her. When she feels like it she will roll over from her stomach to her back. Once she does it once she will do it 10 times in a row. Other times, she simply isn''t interested. She loves playing with her feet and sucking on her three middle fingers facing out (sound like anyone - Andrea???) She thoroughly enjoys her exersaucer and loves to sit and play in it. She is quite a little chatterbox and and has discovered her voice can make high pitch sounds.
That''s about it for now- enough rambling! We are heading to Puerto Rico next Saturday and I can''t wait to introduce Claire to the pool and the beach. :-)
Christmas Cards - CHECK (Did you get yours?)
Visit with Santa - CHECK
Christmas Shopping - Partial CHECK
Maybe we really are ready for Christmas! Just a few more things to buy before tomorrow. Claire is coming to work with Mommy and Santa will be stopping by the office for a visit. I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!!
Can December just be over already?? I know that sounds bad, but it has been crazy for us. With Claire being sick and then getting better, we thought we were on the road to recovery. We bought and decorated the Christmas tree which is always fun and we were looking forward to our trip to South Carolina. Last Tuesday, I worked a normal day and started to not feel good around 2 in the afternoon. After I got home from work, I layed down for a nap and set my alarm to pick up Claire. After waking up 3 times in my 1 hour "nap", I quickly realized there was no way I was able to walk to daycare and pick her up because I had the flu. Gotta love it! I called Dan and told him he needed to leave work in time to pick Claire up by 6:30 and I called daycare to let them know it was OK to give her a bottle if she got hungry. So, Mommy was sick as a dog, Dad was playing Supermom and Claire was enjoying her first bottle of formula :-( I was home sick on Wednesday and I can''t remember the last time I slept so much!! By Wednesday night I at least felt like a human being again and decided to take one more day to "rest". We had a 9PM flight Thursday night which was cancelled by 10AM Thursday morning. Continental was able to rebook us on an earlier flight but that meant I had to drag my sick butt around packing in a rush (and you know the ONLY thing I forgot was my ever important nursing cover??. The flight went well and we had a great time in SC. I wasn''t feeling great the whole time we were down there, but I was much better! The flight home was loooong after a lot of delays but Claire was behaving so I was happy. Sunday night Dan started to not feel good and he has been home sick yesterday and again today. Let''s hope this all passes before Christmas and Claire does not catch what we both had. I will add pictures from our trip soon. As soon as I get our suitcases unpacked, the overflowing laundry done, did you want a Christmas card?? I guess that is also on my to-do list. And how about STARTING Christmas shopping?? You get the point!! Is it January 10th yet -I would really like to be on the beach with a margarita in hand.
I guess everyone should also know that Claire does not like green beans or peas, but she LOVES her orange veggies! She has been a big fan of carrots, then squash, and now sweet potatoes!
I finally added new pictures for everyone to enjoy! You will see Claires nebulizer in the December pictures. After 2 days she began to not mind the treatments and would try to play with the mask. Luckily she got cleared on Friday and no more treatments. She is feeling much better. So much so that we continued our quest toward real food. Last night we tried carrots and she LOVED them. She ate half the container yesterday and an entire container at daycare today!! We are saving the sweet potatoes for Grandma S!
That''s about it for now. We are off to SC on Thursday and Claire is super excited to see Grandma, Grumpy, and company.
Crazy, crazy!! There has been so much going on and I have not been good about updating the page. Claire enjoyed her first Thanksgiving and we celebrated by introducing her to her first real food - green beans! And she are it ate the table with the big kids. And by eat I mean choked down a few bites before realizing that she absolutely hates it, and then spitting the rest out. We tried again the next day and got the same results - maybe she will enjoy them better in round 2. We will probably try peas this week.
Claire also had her Baptism on Saturday. It was the perfect day and Claire was pretty well behaved for the ceremony and took a nice long nap back at the house. We could tell she was starting not to feel well and it only got worse through Sunday. I called the doctor and moved her well visit up from Wed to Mon and I am glad I did. She has a nasty chest cold and cough. The doctor gave us a nebulizer with some medication to be administered 4 times a day through Friday. Let''s just say the worst 20 minutes of Dan & I''s day is spent giving her the treatments. She does not enjoy them, but they sure make her feel better.
We head back to the doctor on Friday to follow up with the treatments and again next Wednesday for her well visit. When they weighed her yesterday she was 11lb 6 oz and 25 inches long - growing slowly but surely!!
Thanks for checking in with us. I will try to get some pictures up soon and of course updates on how Claire is feeling.
I thought we did so much better this month! Dan and I were convinced that we chunked Claire up, especially since all I hear from day care is "More milk Mommy, more milk!" Wow, were we wrong. In the 4.5 weeks since our last visit Claire gained a whopping 10 oz! The good thing is the doctor was not at all concerned and said some babies are just smaller than others. But she did recommend that we increase how much we give her in the bottle (to 8 oz) and also how much rice cereal she gets a day. She wants us to give her 3 tbsp twice a day and then move to barley, followed by oatmeal, green vegetables, other vegetables, fruit, etc... Everything else measured fine - 24.5 inches long with a 40cm head circumference. All I know is she is still damn cute! Especially when she screamed after getting her 2 shots.
After the doctors, she passed out in the car and slept while Dan, Andrea, and I went for dinner. Then the fun of the evening began with baptism class! So much for Claire sleeping through the class, she became quite the little blabbermouth. I would say she kept everyone entertained through the entire class. The baptism is set for Saturday, November 29th, noon at St. Thomas.
Claires first Halloween was good - she trick or treated around the Wishing Well Way neighborhood for a little while and then we headed out to see the aunts, uncles, and cousins. We had a great time and Claire was quite the trooper. Saturday she was spoiled all day with a collective babysitting effort (thanks everyone!) while Mom & Dad went to the Clemson/BC football game. Finally Clemson pulled one out.
That''s about it....now go vote, Claire did! Twice actually, she dropped off absentee ballots with Pipere last week and went to vote with Daddy this morning.
Seriously - has it already been 4 months? In some ways it feels like Claire was just born while at the same time I can''t imagine what we did without her! She is still being a really good baby for us. Her transition to the new daycare went really well. The ladies love her! They always tell me that Daddy never wants to leave her in the morning and they send home the cutest little notes at the end of the day - sweetest little angel, always happy, my baby needs more clothes, or more commonly I hear my baby needs more milk mommy, more milk! Maybe Claire has been going through a growth spurt but it appears she is eating more. We are up to 6 oz at a feeding and that might go up again soon. And if it does we might have to start supplementing with formula because I have a hard enough time keeping up now! We will see what happens when we go back to the doctor on November 3rd.
Claire''s little personality is really shining through now. Daycare always tells us that she loves to smile and I love to see that little smile when I go to pick her up in the afternoon. She is very playful now and a lot more interactive. Her tummy time exercises are getting better. I have a video, but for some reason I can''t post it right now. She has rolled over a few times already and even showed off this talent for Grandma, Sara, and Patrick this weekend.
I often wonder how we made it through the first 5 weeks without a pacifier because this girl loves sucking on anything! In her bouncy seat she pulls all of the attachments into her mouth. Forget sucking her thumb - she now goes for a few fingers or her whole hand. Remember how Andrea used to suck her fingers?? Well, Claire does the same thing except with her two middle fingers! This winter should be interesting since she pulls saliva all over her face and into her hair. She is still a peanut and, yes, we are still wearing 0-3 month clothes. Who would''ve thought....
We haven''t decided what Claire is going to be for Halloween yet. We will be in Massachusetts that night, so be on the lookout for a familiar trick or treater!
Well, we finally did it - we hit double digits! We had our doctors appt Friday afternoon and she weighed in at 10lb 2 oz (in a sweatsuit I might add!). So, we have a tall (23.5 inches) skinny baby with a little head (39cm). Maybe this is why I can''t fit her in some 0-3 month pants! :-) The doctor didn''t seem too concerned about Claires weight when I told her how much she is eating during the day. However, she did say that if we haven''t hit the 12lb mark by our next appointment, then we will start introducing solid foods as an alternative!?!?!?!?!
Just this week, daycare let me know that Claire needs more milk in her bottles. She has been taking 4 oz, so we just sent an extra bottle yesterday and they said she took 6oz in the AM and 5oz around noon. Gail - thanks for the suggestion - two days this week I called to have them hold her last feed until I got home!
Next Monday we are starting at a new daycare - yes, already! We like where we are now, but we were on a waiting list at the one we really wanted and they called saying they had a spot open. So, we gave our notice where we are and make the move next Monday (actually, Tuesday since Monday is a holiday!) to a new daycare. It is a little farther away - it is exactly 198 of my itty bitty steps door to door. Oh, the benefits of city life.
I would like to say that things are settling down in the Snider household, but unfortunately that isn''t the case! Mommy started back to work, which is going alright. Our morning routine starts with Mommy getting up at 4:45 AM to shower and get ready, then get Claire up, change and feed her, and then turn her over to Dad in time for Mom to catch the bus around 6AM. Claire sleeps or hangs out while Dad gets ready and then he brings her to daycare around 7.
That routine was all and well until we headed to Massachusetts this weekend for my cousins wedding. Dan went to play tennis and rolled his ankle. We didn''t even get to see Claire all dressed up for the wedding because we were sitting in the ER waiting for Dan''s X-rays. He didn''t break it, but he did severely sprain it. This means he can barely walk himself, let alone carry himself or Claire up two flights of stairs. Our neighbor has been nice enough to take Claire to daycare in the mornings. She told us that for the first time she patiently waited for the light to turn red before crossing the street. And then when she dropped of Claire they asked her if she was the Grandma - how embarrassing!! She has helped us out so much, including bringing Dan lunch the last two days and driving him to his doctors appointment. Thank god there are still some nice people out there!
I know you want to hear about Claire - she is doing great. She loves to smile and tries really hard to talk. Her mouth goes a mile a minute and once in a while she lets out a good squeak. She finally found her thumb, actually both thumbs, and loves to shove it or any part of her hand in her mouth. She loves her Fisher Price Rainforest aquarium and bouncy seat. When it lights up her eyes get really big and her legs go a mile a minute, it''s pretty comical!
That''s about it for now....time for me to make dinner, do laundry, feed the baby, take care of the gimp, clean up, and get Claires things ready for day care tomorrow. Just so I can wake up around 1:30 to pump and then 4:45 to start these wonderful days all over again :-) I hope Dan is mobile again soon, now I know how he felt when I was pregnant!
So, you ask, how was Mommys first day back at work?? Well, I wouldn''t know because I haven''t gone back yet! Not by choice... Since I took an unpaid leave of absence for more than two weeks I had to take the full medical exam before returning to work. It takes between 1-2 weeks to turn around the test results. I took the tests the day after we got back from SC, but apparently that wasn''t soon enough since the results haven''t come back yet. The most frustrating thing is I will get the E-mail one day and return to work the next. So much for mentally preparing myself to go back to work....
Claire was already enrolled in day care to start September 8th, so I am sending her in the morning. However, if I have something to do, I don''t hesitate to pick her up. Tuesday we went to our last New Mother Support Group, which was kind of sad. That group was very helpful to me and I got to meet lots of new moms in Hoboken. And since it was our last class, that meant it was my last time to measure Claire''s milk transfer while nursing. This week she had the greatest transfer ever - almost 5 ounces! That just reassures me that this breastfeeding thing is working itself out. I don''t know if I ever mentioned, but we no longer have to use the nipple shield. When Claire was 8-9 weeks old she just starting latching on like nothing had ever been wrong. Now, if we could figure out and keep up with this pumping thing... :-)
So much going on...I feel like I haven''t updated in forever. Claire was a champ on her first airplane ride! I carried her in the Baby Bjorn and security was no problem at all. She fell asleep right before we got on the plane and was content the entire ride. The plane was pretty empty on our flights down and back so that helped a ton. We had a great time in South Carolina and got to catch up with friends, which is always nice. Claire got all dressed up for the Clemson football game and spent the day with Grandma while Mom and Dad went to the game - too bad it wasn''t a better game to watch! :-(
The day after we got back from South Carolina, Claire had quite the day. She started in day care in the morning. I think it was worse for me than her, but we had to do it. She was only there from 7:30 - 9:30 because she had her 2 month doctors appt at 10. She had to get two shots and an oral vaccine. She screamed after the shots, but was fine once I picked her up - what a faker! The doctor said she is doing well but really wanted me to work on her weight gain. Since her last appointment she has only gained 6 ounces. Her weight is below the 10th percentile, while her height is between the 50th and 75th percentile. As the doctor put it - maybe she just doesn''t know what''s good for her yet. So now when I give her a bottle, she will get 4 ounces. It will be interesting to see how we keep up with work, pumping, etc...
After Claires doctors appointment, we ventured into the city because I had my return to work medical. We met up with friends for lunch before my medical and then we were at the doctors for over 2 hours. Claire was really well behaved - until we got home! She was pretty fussy all night, but is much better now.
Yesterday she did another 2 hours at day care before we went to Mommy & Me movies. And then today is the big day....I plan to leave her at day care for the majority of the day. I don''t know if I will make it, but we are trying. I dropped her off around 9:30 and I will try to stay busy. I head back to work on Wednesday - assuming all my test results come back before then. I hope I am ready...
That''s about it for now. Time to get busy with chores...
Tuesdays are a fun day for Claire and I. We go to a new mother support group from 11 to 1 at the local hospital and then head to lunch with a few other moms and babies. You should see the look of people in restaurants when they see eight women with strollers coming in for lunch. Yes - we are "those people"! Eight babies ranging from 3 weeks to 9 weeks. This is one time when I feel like the oldie - isn''t that scary? But it is really nice to meet and get out with other women who are going through the same things.
Another reason I enjoy going to this group is because I get to weigh Claire. Not only do I weigh her, but then I feed her and weigh her again to make sure she is transferring OK. Her transfer is OK, but I have recently felt like she hasn''t been putting on weight the way she should. Three weeks ago Claire weighed 8lb 15oz (on this particular scale). The week after that she was down an ounce and then back to 8lb 15 oz the following week. This week we finally broke 9 lbs, weighing in at 9lb 1 oz before eating. It still made me nervous since I thought newborns were supposed to gain an ounce a day, so again I was "that person" who called the pediatrician just to make sure everything was OK. She said as long as Claire is content and alert when she is awake it is fine. Since we have an appointment in two weeks, the doctor said there is no reason to come in unless I really thought something was wrong. So, for my sanity, I will weigh her again next Tuesday and visit the pediatrician the week after.
We have a busy couple of weeks ahead of us. Thursday we have Mommy and Me movie and then the cable company is coming to hook up our new HD Tivo :-) !! Thursday night Dave, Becky, and our niece Gretchen are coming to visit until Sunday. I don''t think Andrea knows what she is in for, but she has offered to babysit for the two kids one night so we can go eat (thanks!) Tuesday night we fly to South Carolina to spend a week down there. We head home the following Tuesday afternoon and I start work a week later - let''s not go there....
Our trip to Vermont was a success! I was a little worried about how Claire would do in the car for almost 6 hours, but she was really good! There were 3 adults in the car, so someone was always sitting in the back with Claire which helped. I would say she slept about 90% of the time in the car - both there and back. We didn''t have excellent weather while we were there, but we had fun nonetheless. Claire made it to the beach twice. She pretty much slept or ate while we were there. She looked so cute in her little bathing suit. We can''t wait to head back to Vermont next year when she can enjoy the water.
She is still a little peanut, but at least I am able to dress her in SOME 0-3 month clothes. Every Tuesday we go to a new mothers group at the local hospital so I get to weigh her every week. In the last two weeks she has only put on 1 oz, but she is content and eating fine so I''m not worried. We measure her milk transfer at the meeting by weighing her, then I feed her during the meeting, and I weigh her again when she finishes eating. After eating yesterday, she was 9 lb 2.4 oz!
I still can''t believe she will be 8 weeks old on Friday. In some aspects, it feels like time has flown by, but other times it feels like Claire has been around forever. I love hanging out with her during the day - we try to get out for any reason - grocery shopping, bank run, new mommy group, or just to go for a walk. She loves being in the Baby Bjorn so I use that to walk around town during the day. Tomorrow we are making our first trip to the movies for Mommy and me movie - we will see how that works out!
Thanks for keeping up with us on this journey - we are having a blast!
I have been so slack about updating this page lately - sorry about that! We are all doing well. We finally spent a weekend at home and relaxed for most of it. It was hot so we didn''t get out much, but we did manage to go out to dinner Saturday night. Claire was very well behaved until we got caught in the rain on the way home - oops!
Claire has started with the smiles and laughing. I love to watch her expressions and they are the best first thing in the morning so Daddy gets to enjoy them too!
Claire had her one month check up today, although she is a little older than one month. She is gaining weight and is now 9 lb 1 oz. She takes after her father with her height, she is now 22 1/4 inches, which is in the 75th percentile - she certainly doesn''t get that from me!
Claire has started smiling at us, which is awesome. She is also starting to make adorable noises. Overall, she is a really good baby except for a few hours at night when she gets fussy - usually from 7 to 9. However, we might have solved that by introducing the pacifier. We held out for a while, but she is at the point now where she will find her thumb if we don''t give her the pacifier. We only give it to her when she is really fussy. Her sleeping patterns haven''t changed, still sleeping from about 11:30 to 6 and then goes back to sleep for a few hours. :-)
Claire is going to be quite the traveler - are you surprised? We have been to Massachusetts twice, we head to Vermont next Wednesday and her first plan ride will be heading to South Carolina on August 26th. We are looking forward to our trips and visits with family and friends!
The doctor has cleared me to resume all normal activities in my life. That is, whatever I can find time for with an almost 4 week old. As far as weight goes - God bless breastfeeding because I am down 6 lbs from my pre pregnancy weight. The weight must be coming from all the wrong places because I don''t see it! I find the weight loss ironic because just last night I asked Dan for a plum as a snack around 11 PM - and mentioned that I bought the plums because my snacks could no longer consist of chocolate chip cookies and ice cream!
Claire is doing well and getting big. She is still sleeping a lot and is a really good baby. She loves to go out in the Baby Bjorn. We have been for a few walks and yesterday we went grocery shopping. The Bjorn is nice because I still have my hands free to do whatever I need.
We are off now to visit Mommys work buddies. Let''s hope Claire is on her best behavior!
